List Building Crash Course Step #1 – The Right Mindset

Tagged Under : , ,

When I first heard about the ability to make money using the internet, I totally avoided anything that talked about mindset. I believe that was one of my biggest mistakes. If I had my mind in the right spot and really focused when I first got started online, I believe I would be much farther along in my business than I am today.

So don't just skip over this part because it doesn't seem important right now. The mindset you bring into this business is the only thing you've got to start with, so make sure it's solid and in the right place.

The Internet Marketing Mindset

The first thing that you have to get through your head is that your goal should not be to "make money online." If you do, you'll end up bouncing from program to program that promises just that: easy money with the internet.

Instead, you've got to see it as starting a business, because that is what you're going to be doing.

You wouldn't just go out and start a brick and mortar business with no plan or budget or any structure of any kind. So don't do it with your new internet business. Just because it costs hardly anything to get started, you should still treat it as a real business that you own and are committed to making succeed.

If you don't have the drive to stick in there when it's hard, then you will never have a successful online business.

But if you DO treat it like a business and commit to never giving up, once you've got your business up and running it will pay you back exponentially for the time that you put in it. The internet is a truly powerful medium to use to build a business with.

So whatever you do don't fall into the trap of "I'm just going to make money with the internet." When it doesn't happen immediately you'll get very discouraged.

When you get into the business mindset you know you're in it for the long haul. So it doesn't seem like a big deal to spend a couple bucks on the tools you need to run your business. When you're just starting to build your list of prospects, you're not going to be getting 500 new subscribers per day. It may start at just 1 per day, then 5 per day, and as long as you keep working at it in a smart way, that number will keep increasing.

When you start looking at it this way, your goals will be a little farther out and much more realistic. So instead of being disappointed when you can't quit your job after a couple weeks of work, you'll be focused on building your business up so you WILL succeed and be able to quit your job and work from home maybe in a year or two. Sure it may come sooner, but you're setting yourself up for failure if you believe the hypey sales letters that say you can make $50,000 next month and be set for life.

Commit to your business, don't get distracted, and focus on growing your business slowly over time.

    Greetings,
Hard to read 'Mindset' with all the social stuff obscuring the piece.

I’ll move that little floating window around a bit to make it a little less obtrusive. But if you widen your browser just a little bit, it should push it out of the way for ya.

Sound advice, Tyson.  I'm at the point where I get nauseous when I see these pay ten dollars ONE TIME and make 9326.75 EVERY MONTH garbage sites.  Clearly that's a Ponzi scheme…
It seems that in order to get people to think with this mindset it is better to start a dialogue with them through FB or Twitter, or Youtube and educate them.  Help them see the light before (or after) they have fallen into the muckpit of GRQ.

Hey Dave, I totally agree. When I first heard about “making money online” I tried all sorts of get rich quick garbage and it was very frustrating! I’m convinced the best way to earn an income online is to start a real business that helps people, then just look at the internet as the medium that you market through.

Really Good advice Tyson, It is hard to stay in focus with all the programs out there. I fell in to that trap of going program to program trying to find to “secret”. Now I just trying to get my business up the right way .

I know that you know what you are doing, but how can you impart any real knowledge to someone like me. I am computer intelligent, and Internet STUPID! I look for help but only find more fads and schemes to take what little I have left. I actually need help and not the kind that cost $47.99. I am so short now that I have to jump up just to touch bottom.
